coven99 is a small virtual network comprised of hackers, homelabbers, sysadmins, witches, and anyone interested in networking.
we're pushing for a more free and open Internet where regular people control the network, not corporations.
in the future we hope to expand into physical networks!
if you're interested in joining, drop obw a line at obw@coven99.net
or join the IRC at irc.coven99.net (irc.coven99 internally)
(irc server not up yet but you can email me now!)
members peer with each other through various means - we recommend Wireguard for ease-of-use but anything is fine as long as it transports IP. we do highly recommend an encrypted tunnel (wireguard, tinc, ipsec...); different peers will offer different technologies, so someone's bound to support your preferred tunnel.
we're ipv6 native internally - ipv4 is obsolete and we have free & open internal DNS.
we operate in the fc99::/16 range & we generally allocate /64 or /48 blocks.
we've got 3 major internal TLDs: .coven99, .witch and .cauldron
.coven99 is for use by important coven services - for example, this website is available at http://self.coven99 or the DNS delegation requestor (http://dns.coven99). it's restricted use, but that doesn't mean we don't ever delegate domains - you just have to have a good use, like if you're providing an important internal service.
.witch is for personal use - you can get a free domain from http://dns.coven99. we impose a 10 domain limit per member on this TLD. you can use infinite subdomains though.
.cauldron is for potential future shenanigans. we might try doing service discovery stuff on this? it'll be a fun time.
